March 2015

CPACS and CPACS Cosmo Health Center thanks Northside Hospital for donating their time, resources, and expert staff on March 21, 2015 when Northside Hospital and CPACS Cosmo Health Center partnered to provide comprehensive free health screening to 165 Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Community members of Metro Atlanta. Over 120 clients received one-on-one cardiovascular and diabetes risk education. In-person interpretation and translation was provided in Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, Burmese, Vietnamese, Nepali and Spanish. CPACS Express transportation services were provided to clients living in the city of Clarkston.

By understanding one’s health status, individuals and families have taken the first step to better health. Free health screenings are an important way to improve health access and healthcare engagement for uninsured and underinsured individuals. At the Northside/CPACS Cosmo Health Center Health Fair, 7 community members were found to have dangerously high glucose and blood pressure readings and were transported to CPACS COSMO Health Center for immediate attention.

List of screenings provided:

Blood Pressure /Medical Weight / BMI (Digital average)
Cancer Risk (Info on multiple types of cancer)

CPACS & GATE Coalition Youth members join forces with Cross Keys High School’s SADD Club to celebrate Kick Butts Day 2015. The students built a display to highlight that cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year in the United States.

Kick Butts Day is a national day of activism that empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against Big Tobacco. This year's Kick Butts Day was March 18,2015.
